About

One of the most requested and versatile haircuts in the salon. The length can vary to suit each client, while forward graduation and soft layering add movement and shape—without losing too much length. With this version you’ll learn how to build balance, protect the perimeter, and manage weight distribution in longer shapes that work across different hair types. What I’ll share and what you’ll learn: • Foundational skills for layering long hair with control and consistency • How to cut and shape the perimeter by cutting through the fingers • Forward graduation techniques to frame the face and create a soft C-shape while protecting the corners • How to remove weight and add movement without losing length • Understanding balance and weight distribution on long hair • Sectioning, elevation, and over-direction to control the shape • Cutting with point cutting to soften the layers • How to refine and texturize the final result on dry hair Ideal Hair Types: • Suitable for all hair types • For coil hair, assess each client individually based on their curl pattern, density, and the result they want to achieve Tip: Curly hair jumps more than expected, so cut conservatively and keep elevation low. What you remove will look shorter once dry. Check the shape as you go, and for more guidance on cutting curls, check out the two curly cuts in this series. Bonus Tip: For clients who want a change without going short, this is the perfect way to refresh their shape while keeping their length.
